I’ve been really into making Hong Kong style dishes this week! I recently found out that this dish is a kid crowd pleaser, so I decided to try recreating this myself. It’s like a thickish sweet tomato soup and only took 45 minutes to cook! My husband loved this so much he went for seconds and thirds 🙂

To marinade beef:

corn starch

a dash of baking soda

water (just enough for the beef to soak it up)

soy sauce

white pepper

optional: maggi sauce, oyster sauce

For soup:

chicken stock

tomato paste

tomato sauce

ketchup

sugar

optional: spaghetti sauce (if not, add onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, and a bay leaf)

Others:

tomatoes

carrots

peas

Directions:

  1. Marinade the beef for at least an hour.
  2. Cook pasta half way, reserve the pasta water, and set aside.
  3. Stir fry the beef, then take it out.
  4. Add the chicken stock, a small can (15 oz) of tomato sauce, half spoon of tomato paste, 3 spoons of ketchup, 1 spoon of sugar, and bay leaf. Cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Add diced carrots and pasta. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  6. Add remaining pasta water (1 cup), peas, roughly chopped tomatoes, and beef. Cover for 2 minutes and then its ready to serve!
